Bundy's Big Day out at Races; Greg Shailer Rates the Form Ahead of Bundy's Melbourne Cup Race Day

Article excerpt

Race 1 a JOE KNOTT SMASH REPAIRS CLASS B 850 METRES

This is a difficult race to kick off with only the Steven Thomas-trained three-year-old filly Frisco Fun displaying any recent winning form.

Last start she easily won a maiden at Gympie as a $2 favourite when ridden by Desiree Gill who takes the ride again tomorrow at her first start on this track.

Her opposition include the Bundaberg-trained pair of Sagheer and Formal Winter.

The latter is an interesting runner trained by Laurie Gough.

The four-year-old has only had one start where he finished well back in a Brisbane two-year-old race in June 2009.

Glenrock Matthew could be a chance if you disregard his last-start defeat at $101 at the Sunshine Coast when beaten 17 lengths and go on his third here in September when beaten narrowly.

Selections: Sagheer, Frisco Fun, Glenrock Matthew

Race 2 a SPEED-E-COM CLASS 5 1090 METRES

This race has only five starters but it would not surprise if any of them saluted.

The locally trained Glenn Andrews seven-year-old Cane Champagne will be hard to beat on the strength of a last-start nose defeat at Rockhampton.

Apprentice Katsuto Yoneyama again takes the mount and his claim will no doubt help Cane Champagne in his bid to rack up his first win from two starts on this track.

Barramundi will have his supporters although his form has been poor since his last win at Bundaberg.

Topweight Through The Waves will appreciate the drop in class.

Gympie horse All Diehard has been racing very well at that venue with two wins and a second from his last three starts when well supported each time.

Selections: Cane Champagne, All Diehard, Through The Waves

Race 3 a GRANT RURAL INDUSTRY/BAFFLE CREEK TAVERN CLASS B 1600 METRES

This will be a real slug fest over the testing 1600 metres. …
