Spar Night for Charity; At-Risk Teens to Visit Vanuatu

A SPAR Night on November 26 at the Warwick Boxing Club Gym will be a skilful night of boxing without any knockdowns, according to Andrew Jones.

The event is being organised by the three club trainers, Jones, Rodd Parry and his father Roy, and club president Andrew Grafton to raise funds towards sending 12 at-risk youths to Vanuatu for a week in January.

The January trip will be the culmination of a program put together by Warwick Church of Christ and the Warwick Boxing Club with the support of sponsors.

Six mentors, who are currently working with the 14 and 15-year-old boys, will also go on the trip.

Jones said the kids involved with the program had disengaged from the community and were at risk of making inappropriate life choices.

"We are trying to get them back on track, enthusiastic about life and possible work opportunities," he said.

While there are regular spars at the boxing club gym, the November 26 night will be the first where the club has encouraged a large crowd to attend. …
