A BREWERY served up a milestone moment when it brewed its millionth pint.

The Allendale Brewery, in Hexham, Northumberland, has been celebrating the landmark occasion which is an impressive milestone for a small brewery just four years after they brewed its first pint.

Tom Hick, who runs the brewery with wife Lucy, said: "It's something we have been keen to do as soon as we could because it means we are a success.

"It's quite an achievement with us being in a rural area here in Allendale."

And the couple, who live in Corbridge, Northumberland, are no stranger to success as their ales have recently scooped awards at some of the most prestigious industry competitions in the region.

Their star ale Golden Plover beat off competition from over 100 breweries from across the North of England to win gold in the Best Bitter category at the Society for Independent Brewers earlier this year.

Another one of their popular ales, Allendale Wolf, also received a top award from Durham CAMRA, being judged to be Beer of the Year 2010 in the strong bitter category. …
