MOTORSPORT: Ex-Formula One driver Jos Verstappen has joined the growing number of experts who believe Red Bull must back Mark Webber's title ambitions.

While both Webber and German teammate Sebastian Vettel remain mathematical chances for this year's world championship, Red Bull is refusing to back the chances of one driver over another.

But, with Webber just 11 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso going into this weekend's penultimate grand prix in Brazil many feel his team must back him over Vettel.

The young German is 25 points behind Alonso and must finish ahead of the Spaniard at Interlagos to stay in the title hunt.

Verstappen, Holland's most successful Formula One driver, threw his support behind the Australian in his column for Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

"Purely mathematically, the German has a chance to be world champion. But, the team really has to put everything behind Webber," the 38-year-old wrote.

"He (Webber) has a better chance of winning the title. …
