Churches Show Faith; New Parish for Springfield

A NEW Catholic parish will be established in Springfield with the church confirming services will be conducted in the growing area from next year.

And after five years of using temporary buildings, the Church of Christ Oasis Church in Springfield is keen to start construction on a permanent place of worship in mid-2011.

Both expansion plans are good news for Springfield developers, after the master-planned community was last year blasted by an Ipswich MP for having no soul due to its lack of churches.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane said building a church was not in their immediate plans, but that Archbishop John Bathersby decided a parish in Springfield should be created.

Moderator of the Archdiocesan Curia, the Very Reverend Peter Meneely, said Father Mauro Conte had been appointed as the Springfield Parish Priest.
