JET-SETTING visitors are being welcomed to Mackay in a vibrant fashion.

A new giant billboard welcoming visitors to the city has been erected at Mackay Airport.

The billboard, a project of Mackay Regional Council and Mackay Tourism supported by the Mackay-Matsuura Sister City Advisory Committee, is one that can't be missed with the central message of CyWelcome' in vibrant colours.

Tourism and Economic Development portfolio councillor David Perkins said the previous billboard had faded over time and was in need of an update and a refreshed look.

"With the location of the billboard at the airport it provides significant visitation numbers, which in turns offers the perfect opportunity to welcome visitors to our beautiful region," Cr Perkins said.

"In the year leading up to June 30, 2010, around 650,000 people visited Mackay and it's anticipated that by the end of the year the airport would have had one million people through the terminal," he said. …
