A CRASH investigator yesterday told an inquest into the death of a motorcyclist at Maroochydore River four years ago that there were shortfalls in the accident investigation.

Senior Sergeant Simon Lamerton was asked by the coroner's office two years ago to review Senior Constable Garry Church's initial investigation into the death of Adrian Jones, 18, in a collision with a four-wheel-drive on Yandina-Bli Bli Road on April 8, 2006.

Snr Sgt Lamerton told the inquest that Snr Const Church's report on the accident had not looked thoroughly at the condition of the road, which some witnesses alleged had been tainted by dirt left over from roadside drilling.

"I didn't feel he had given a good enough explanation as to what he had seen on the day. He seemed to rely on what other people said about the clean-up having been adequate," Snr Sgt Lamerton said.

Snr St Lamerton said proper statements should also have been obtained from drilling workers in the weeks after the accident about their clean-up processes, given the potential for the drilling and dirt to be an issue. …
