WHAT are your rights when purchasing organic products?

Every day we are inundated with labelling claims advertising anything and everything to influence us to buy their products. These claims might be about where a product is made or how it is grown or the type of ingredients it contains.

Organic is one such claim. Products labelled as organic generally attract a premium price and because it is becoming a more available choice in Australia with expected sales of around $1bn this year, some businesses may be tempted to promote their goods with an organic claim.

Over the years we have all heard and seen the signs "clean & green", "GM free", "local", "chemical free", "eco-friendly", "natural" , Cyhydroponic", "minimal sprays", "free range" etc., the list is endless.

We are in the industry and sometimes find it hard to work out what the products are organic. Are you paying for what you think you are getting? …
