HE represented his country in rugby league 48 years ago.

Now George Smith is living in a caravan by the Grafton dog track and can no longer get around on his own.

To combat this, the former league player was presented with a new walker by The Men of League organisation to help him get his independence back.

That piece of news just begins to scratch the surface of this man's story.

Smith, 80, made his international debut in 1962 at the age of 32. It was the only game he played in the green and gold, but he remembers it fondly.
