CASHED-UP Central Highlanders are leading a trend of apartment purchases on the Capricorn Coast.

Ross O'Reilly, principal of O'Reilly Real Estate, said Emerald was a "hotspot" of buyers for coast properties.

"Central Queensland are realising what potential the Capricorn Coast holds," he said.

Mr O'Reilly said the relatively small distance from the mining towns meant buyers were looking at their own apartments or beach houses to enjoy.

He said the trend towards apartments reflected the lack of time people have to care for backyards or gardens.

Supply of apartment accommodation is still strong, with several complexes down to just a few remaining stock.

"There's still some very good apartments available on the Capricorn Coast," Mr O'Reilly said.

He said several properties, including Oshen, Beaches on Lammermoor and Pinnacle still had a couple of units up for grabs.
