Man Is Killed by Tube as He Walks along Line

A MAN was killed when he was struck by a train as he tried to walk home through a Tube tunnel.

The 38-year-old from west London died after walking off the end of a platform at Bayswater station in the early hours of today.

A maintenance team carrying out a routine inspection found the body of the man, who has not been named, at 2.30am. The last train had gone through 90 minutes earlier.

The man, who may have been on his way home from a night out, was pronounced dead at the scene and a private ambulance took away the body about six hours later. Police believe they know the man's identity but are awaiting formal identification from the next of kin.

Police examined the last three trains through the station, but did not find any evidence of the collision. The victim's injuries, however, were consistent with having been struck by a train.

The tragedy caused long delays for commuters in the morning rush hour today as the entire Circle line was closed and large sections of the District line suspended to allow police and medical experts to attend the scene. …
