WHEN you engage in a conversation with Tom O'Toole, during which you have asked only one question and it has triggered a 20-minute waterfall of words, you are stunned when he concludes his manic spiel with: "Wait 'til I get up on stage. When I do that I get really excited and I don't stop talking Co and I speak really fast."

Faster than this?


Sound travels slower than Tom O'Toole talks.

The famous Beechworth Bakery owner is coming to Maroochydore to present at a special business breakfast on Thursday.

"I'll be talking about how I've turned a retail cash business from a $100,000 turnover to well in excess of $12million," he said rather quickly.

"That happened over a few years and I do now have six shops, but lots of people can't believe I can be doing these figures.

"But it's all about teamwork, getting out of your comfort zone, setting goals and doing that bit extra.

"I talk with photos because it dumbs it down. Otherwise people use their imagination and it becomes bigger than Ben Hur Co and I want to make it easy.

"It's about belief in your people and the little things Co the smiles, the thanks, the returned phone calls Co but we're all out there looking for that big fix or a fairy godmother.

"It's not rocket science. It's a simple matter of reminding yourself that you are in business to serve your customer.

"And all a customer wants is for someone to look at them instead of be playing with a computer or ignoring them.

"They are the basics we all know, but we forget."

Mr O'Toole, 58, travels Australia and the world telling tales about his success.

"I'm as thick as a brick. I don't know how to use a calculator. Lots of people I employ do, but people listen to me and think if this guy can have an incredibly profitable business, there's hope for me. …
