DOUG Newell was hoping to be part of the activities team.

Pamella Turnbull had her eyes on a child care position.

Like every one of the 100-plus hopefuls who fronted at the Hyatt Regency Coolum yesterday, they had a specific job in their sights a even if it was just one for a few weeks during the holiday season.

The resort's annual Christmas employment campaign attracted 120 people who endured a nervous wait, resumes in hand, before being called into an interview room unlike any other.

Eighteen senior staff sat in one large room interviewing job applicants for 40 positions a from chefs, front office clerks and landscapers to housekeepers and child carers.

"At was like nothing I've ever experienced before," Doug admitted.

The Coast student has just finished the second year of his Environmental Management degree at the University of Queensland and was hoping for a place on the activities team to get him through to next year.

"A lot of the jobs out there are just casual hours for a few shifts a week, so I've got my fingers crossed for this one," he said.

Pamella had her fingers crossed but for something for more permanent after moving from Sydney.

"I wanted to start a different lifestyle and this is one of the first jobs I've applied for because I've only just moved," she said. …
