WELL, New Zealand is World Champion and now it can claim to be Four Nations champions.

Going by results you would be hard-pressed to argue the Kiwis are the best rugby league team in the world.

Certainly the Kangaroos boast a plethora of stars Co Darren Lockyer, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Lote Tuqiri, Kurt Gidley, Greg Bird, Brent Tate, Paul Gallen.

On paper they have the wood over their trans-Tasman rivals who feature just a handful of big-name players in the likes of Benji Marshall and Isaac Luke.

However, all of that counted for nought at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night. And credit to New Zealand.

The Aussies were cruelled by injuries to Tate and Luke Lewis and a couple of blatant forward passes which went unnoticed and led to Kiwi four-pointers. However, Tate's first try should have also been disallowed after Brett Morris put his foot on the sideline in the lead-up and the Australians only have themselves to blame after gifting the New Zealanders a number of opportunities in the second half.

Just a week prior, coach Tim Sheens was hailed for injecting new blood and enthusiasm against the Kiwis in the final round-robin match of the Four Nations.

The question has to be asked: what went wrong in the return game seven days later?

For one, the Australians' passion was down and perhaps it's time for generational change. …
