SURF LIFESAVING: The Sunshine Coast will boast seven competitors at the opening round of the men's Kellogg's Nutri-Grain IronMan Series at Currumbin on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

But even the most ardent pundits in the sport are having a tough time predicting which will fare the best.

Ironman legend Guy Leech said he could not decide which of them would provide the greatest threat to reigning world ironman champion and five time Kellogg's Nutri-Grain IronMan Series winner, Shannon Eckstein, of the Gold Coast.

"It's such an intriguing race between all the Sunshine Coast guys and I am almost as excited to see who wins their little race within a race as I am in the overall event," Leech said.

"The guys on the coast are all so well coached and will be well prepared for this."

Lining up for the Sunshine Coast will be Dicky Beach veteran Rhys Drury, Metropolitan Caloundra's Corey Jones, Mooloolaba quartet Matt Poole, Alex Tibbits, Dylan Newbiggin and Josh Minogue and Noosa Heads rookie Mitch Miller, the youngest in the 20-strong field. …
