COULD Tiger Woods be coming to Coolum in 2011?

The Australian PGA says there is every chance he could.

The Australian PGA Championship at Hyatt Regency Coolum, Australian Open and Australian Masters are locked in a three-way scheduling battle to lure the world's best players when they visit the country next year.

The likes of Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Greg Norman, Ernie Els and Y.E. Yang will touch down in Australia for the President's Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club from November 14-20.

One of Australia's three major summer tournaments will act as a warm-up event the week before and therefore attract a star-studded field.

Which of those tournaments will get the nod will be decided by the Australasian PGA in December.

Australian PGA CEO Max Garske yesterday told The Daily all three tournaments were evenly poised to snare the coveted spot, however, a decision was still some way off.

"There are so many things up in the air," he said. "We have to wait to see what's happening with the HSBC (Championship) in China, the Singapore Open, the World Cup, the television for each of the events in Australia. For example the Masters is covered by Nine and Fox Sports, the Open and the PGA are covered by Ten and ONEHD.

"So it's just ensuring that we don't schedule a date and suddenly find there is a real problem with that.

"We have a board meeting the week of the PGA Championship at Coolum and we would be hopeful that we'd be in a position to release the dates then. …
