Athlete Suffers Broken Bone in the Line of Duty; Beast Has Got the Better of Bullfighter Matt Mahoney

MATT Mahoney has taken on many bulls in his 10 years as a bullfighter, but suffered his worst broken bone in the line of duty over the weekend.

The 31-year-old Rockhampton protection athlete was working at the CRCA Rodeo on Saturday when a bull that had just knocked off its young rider charged back at him.

Matt jumped in front of the bull trying to move it away when he was knocked to the ground and then stood on.

The beast's weight on Matt's ankle caused his bone to break.

After going through surgery on Sunday, Matt was in high spirits when he talked to The Morning Bulletin yesterday saying it wasn't the first time he'd been injured while taking on a bull.

aI've had a knee reconstruction twice,a Matt said.
