School Now Getting Better; Inspector Praises Progress

A SCHOOL which was given a "notice to improve" by Government inspectors is now making good progress.

The comment was made in Ormesby School's monitoring inspection - the first since it was given a notice to improve earlier this year.

In a letter to headteacher Steve Burrows inspector Brian Blake said: "I am of the opinion that at this time the school is making good progress in addressing the issues for improvement and in raising the pupils' achievement."

The school, in Middlesbrough, has been told it should improve the impact of teaching on students' learning, attainment and progress and improve leadership and management by further developing information systems to monitor students' progress.

Mr Blake said at the time of the previous inspection students' attainment and progress was inadequate but in the last GCSE exams there was good improvements. Attainment at GCSE was now close to the national average and Mr Blake said the "vast majority of students are now making at least satisfactory progress, with some that is better. …
