Businessman Blames Kids for Costly Fire

TWO pairs of eyes witnessed children use sparklers to set fire to a Buderim business.

But pet cockatiels Woody and Jack II cannot help Living Pots owner and manager Chris Hobson find out just what occurred at 7pm on Monday at his business on the corner of Maroochydore and Jones roads.

Surveillance footage from a nearby supermarket, however, is expected to provide a different story.

Mr Hobson estimated a loss of between $2000 and $3000 due to the fire, which was reported by a passing motorist.

He said the motorist stopped to alert staff at the neighbouring IGA supermarket.

A staff member extinguished the fire, which had engulfed one of the sails of the Living Pots Outdoor Garden Centre.

Mr Hobson said melted pieces of cloth had dropped on to pots and a large garden feature below.

The pots can be cleaned but the garden feature was destroyed, Mr Hobson said.
