Academy Plan to Build Up Hockey; Elite Pathways to Help Players Reach Their Potential

GRAFTON Hockey, in an initiative to build elite pathways for its athletes, has formed an academy for 2010/11 to assist players reach their full potential.

Brent Livermore, the 300 Test veteran, former Australian captain and Olympic gold medallist, will head the coaching program.

The academy will target a select 30-member group of 14 to 16 year old players and develop the pathways from local representative selection to North Coast Academy to State selection.

At each stage of the program, support programs will be set in place from representative coaching to specialist training for goalkeepers and those gaining State selection.

The first clinic will be held on November 27-28 and as a mouth-watering test of ability, games will be contested against the Gold Coast Academy.

Games against Gold Coast will be from 4pm to 7pm on Saturday and 12pm to 3pm Sunday.

Supporters of hockey will see some unbelievable skills on display.

Livermore's love of local hockey development is displayed in his letter of congratulations to the squads.

"Firstly I would like to congratulate you all for your recent selection to the Grafton Hockey HP Academy for 2010/ 2011," he said.

"GHA is extremely proud of your achievements and potential and would like to provide you with the opportunity to develop those skills, fitness and understanding for higher achievements in the future.

"This weekend will be run by myself, Brent Livermore and a number of development coaches. It will include skill development, advanced skills, game development understanding and set piece development."

Also at 2pm on the Saturday a acome and trya training session will be held by Livermore and academy players.

All primary age players are welcome to attend free of charge.

Four clinics will be held throughout the year each timed to assist pathway development prior to major representative commitments. …
