Families Are Adopted Fast; Bundy Brings Festive Cheer to Needy Clients

CENTACARE has become the first of the NewsMail's Adopt-A-Family charities to have all its nominated families adopted.

Centacare counselling team leader Shari Jackson said she was thrilled with the generous support pledged to their 12 families.

"When we go out and deliver the hampers, or the people come in here to collect them, they are just so grateful," she said.

"We don't tell the families just in case they are not adopted; so it is always quite a surprise for them. There are always a few tears and excited kids running around."

Ms Jackson said the difficult economic climate had placed additional pressure on many local families.

"I think this year has been particularly difficult for families, with increases in electricity (costs) and rates going up," she said.

The economic stress was too much for some families to cope with and increased family breakdown often resulted.

Ms Jackson said Centacare staff loved being involved with the appeal. …
