Sellers Leads Opponents in Mayoral Race; Winner Declared about Wednesday

COUNTING has begun for the 2010 Mayoral By-election with a total of 20,210 votes counted.

Acting mayor Gail Sellers has received 72.69 per cent of the votes with 14,691 residents voting for the experienced councillor. Agnes Water candidate Bruce Rhoades is in second position with 3563 votes followed by David Loane with 1594 votes.

At this stage 362 informal votes have been counted. A winner will not be declared until at least Wednesday while final postal votes continue to be received and counted.

Gladstone Regional Council's community relations manager Michelle Wagner said yesterday the council was re-counting and double checking the votes received and any informal votes.

"We will place an update on council's webpage each day until the winner is declared," Ms Wagner said.

Acting mayor Gail Sellers said until a winner was declared it would be business as usual for the council.

"I am very happy with the result and it is a show of support not only for me but for council that we are doing a good job," Ms Sellers said. …
