HE fell asleep behind the wheel and almost lost his life, but accident survivor Thomas Reilly said he learnt a valuable lesson.

Thomas had had a big day at work the day before and didn't sleep much that night.

He was driving the next morning when he suffered a micro sleep and blanked out for a few seconds.

C[pounds sterling]I woke up to see a semi-trailer in the lane straight in front of me so I swerved, hit a bank and rolled the car six times,C[yen] he said.

Thomas, who was 18 at the time of the accident, said it happened so fast he didn't have time to think.

C[pounds sterling]You don't think you just react,C[yen] he said.

Thomas was lucky to walk away from the wreck with only whiplash and a few cuts and scratches.

C[pounds sterling]If there had been a passenger in the car they would have surely been killed as that side of the car was completely crushed in. …
