WITH Christmas holidays around the corner, the message from police for Central Queensland motorists is CyDrive to stay Alive'.

How many people are dying on our local roads? How much is it costing the state to treat traffic accident victims?

Are the key messages getting through? What has improved? What hasn't when it comes to road safety?

The major causes of accidents and deaths are the fatal four Co speeding, drink driving, not wearing seatbelts and fatigue Co but there are also other major causes such as mobile phones, eating and music.

Police statistics show that from January 1, 2010 to November 17, 2010 there have been seven fatal traffic accidents in the Gladstone Police District.

As well as the fatalities there have also been 28 traffic accidents involving hit-and-run and 169 accidents with injury and 252 reported traffic accidents in the Gladstone District with no injury, plus 7679 speed camera offences and 6991 other speeding fines. …
