YOU may have your Christmas cards written and your turkey ordered but have you stocked up your medicine cabinet? Health experts from NHS Tees are urging everyone to be prepared this Christmas as GP surgeries could be closed for up to four days due to the festivities falling over the weekend. Dr Ifti Lone, Primary Medical Care Advisor for NHS Middlesbrough and NHS Redcar and Cleveland said people need to stock up on everything that they may need over the Christmas weekend from paracetamol to indigestion remedies as well as making sure they have picked up any repeat prescriptions from their pharmacy. "Most surgeries will be closed from Friday to Monday and that is a long time not to see your GP," he said. "Some practices may choose to open for a few hours on Monday but this year we also have four new health centres which are open 365 days a year. Our advice to people in the NHS Tees area is to make sure they stock up on household remedies and get their repeat prescriptions in advance if they are due over Christmas. …
