THE kitchen has always been the hub of the home; it makes sense that human dwellings tend to centre around the place where food can be found.

Once you have established your needs you can set about choosing the layout that suits you.

Larger, more open plan designs continue to grow in popularity. This type of kitchen can work in a variety of styles, from classic to more modern styles.

Hidden kitchens, where much of the functionality of the kitchen is enclosed behind cabinetry, works well with the open plan home. It allows for a clean look where the kitchen flows seamlessly into the adjoining living spaces. This layout works particularly well in a contemporary home.

Colour

Less is more when it comes to choosing a palette for your kitchen. White is still the number one choice, as it offers a blank canvas and allows you to use your home wares to add colour, rather than committing to a scheme that may date, or may not appeal to potential buyers should you choose to sell your home.

A splashback can be used to add a vibrant splash of bold colour to bring to life an all-white kitchen.
