Wooli Road Speed Limit in Question

A SPEED limit reduction on two Clarence Valley roads was recommended by Magistrate Jeffrey Linden following an inquest into the deaths of two women in a car crash last year.

Jennifer Coggins and Kerri Pattinson were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in hit a tree on the side of Eight Mile Lane at Glenugie on December 6 last year.

The pair, from Queensland, had been holidaying at Wooli.

After hearing evidence from Clarence Valley Council's operations manager Tim Jenkins about road maintenance, council's road network and funding constraints in Maclean Local Court on Wednesday, Mr Linden handed down his recommendation about Eight Mile Lane and Wooli Road.

"I recommend that strong consideration be given by the local council to review the speed limit on those roads due to the nature of the trees along the side of those roads," he said.

In delivering his finding, Mr Linden highlighted Michael Pattinson's concerns that if the tree had not been so close to the side of the road his former wife might still be alive. …
