This week I ventured into an artist's studio to interview international award-winning artist David Bromley. Unlike most artists, he is familiar with the daily demands of working as a newspaper illustrator of more than 30 years.

While newspaper illustrations in regional newspapers are largely syndicated cartoon strips or an editorial cartoon, capital city newspapers, particularly the broadsheets, employ illustrators to produce often complex illustrations to accompany opinion writers. After all this time, Bromley is to have his first solo exhibition at the Big Sky Gallery in Bellingen this weekend.

On the opposite page is a profile of two Coffs Harbour exhibitions where the nice world of calligraphy has joined forces with the less-understood graffiti artists to create new works. …
