Lennox Point Rescue of Tourists Earns Lifesaver a State Award

A SILENT achiever who saved the lives of a father and son has been awarded for his heroic effort.

Brian Dell, from the Lennox Head-Alstonville Surf Life Saving Club, was paddling his surf ski recently when he noticed touristDaryl Williams and his son had fallen off the rocks at Lennox Point.

Mr Dell paddled his ski to the couple and managed to help the young boy back on to the rocks.

Unable to help the father, Mr Dell paddled him out to sea, before losing his paddle and swimming to a nearby fishing boat for help.

A modest Mr Dell asked Lennox Head-Alstonville SLSC president Wayne Jones to speak on his behalf after he received the prestigious Surf Live Saving NSW Rescue of the Month award.

Mr Jones said the club didn't learn of its lifesaver's heroic rescue until Mr Williams wrote a letter of thanks to the club.

"You can imagine the look on the fishermen's faces when Brian came swimming up to them," he said.

"After the rescue he just went on his way again and the only way we found out about it was when the man wrote a letter of thanks about it. …
