Top Tennis Talents Battle out the Finals

THE season finals capped off a year of rivalry for the young tennis players of Maryborough at the weekend.

Two grades contested the finals, the A1 competitors and the A2 competitors.

The top eight players in the Maryborough tennis club battled it out at the Alice Street courts.

Kyle Booker played Alex Kunst in the A1 semi-final, while in the second semi-final Lleyton Goldsmith played Sam Schnyder.

Booker won his semi-final 6-3 in what was a closely contested match, Maryborough tennis coach Bruce Rayner said.

The second semi didn't look close on paper, with Goldsmith defeating Schnyder 6-0, but it was a lot closer then it appeared, Rayner said.

"They were both very good matches."

Goldsmith and Booker then met in the final of the A1, with Booker winning the match 6-3.

It was revenge for Booker, who was defeated in club championships by Goldsmith three weeks ago.

"Lleyton got up three weeks ago, so Kyle has been keen to seek revenge," Rayner said. …
