IAN HISLOP'S AGE OF THE DO-GOODERS 9PM, BBC2 Ian Hislop is perhaps not the first person you'd think of as a champion of dogoodery.

But here he is, trumpeting the praises of William Wilberforce who, when not campaigning against slavery, was very keen on manners, and Octavia Hill, a pioneer of housing reform who used to pop round to her beneficiaries' dwellings and run her finger over their surfaces. Contributors include the Archbishop of Canterbury and A.N. Wilson.
