A YOUNG man trying to earn some extra cash has ended up with an even bigger hole in his pocket.

Jai Ivan Gourley pleaded guilty in that Gladstone Magistrates Court on Thursday to fraud, stealing and driving without a licence.

Police prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Troy Daubaras told the court that Gourley was found to be cancelling sales on the cash register and pocketing the money while working as a cashier at a bottle-shop in October.

The court heard Gourley would scan an item, then cancel it, take the payment Co causing the till to be over Co and then take the cash so it would balance.

The court was told Gourley completed an unknown number of cancelled sales.

Initially Gourley pocketed the proceeds of one or two cancelled sales a shift but later the fraud escalated.

The scam eventually netted him $1165.60.

The stolen cash was spent on everyday items, the court heard.

Of the $1165.60 stolen, Gourley handed over $250. …
