Innings of the Century; Friends Hit High Scores

WHILE Mike Hussey and Brad Haddin were clocking up impressive centuries for Australia in the first Ashes Test against England at the Gabba on Saturday, Warwick junior cricketer Thomas Bourke was clocking up a century of his own in under-12 junior cricket fixtures.

Thomas scored 127 and combined with best friend Will Gordon, who himself scored 61, to steer the team to a convincing victory.

The pair was responsible for 205 in a team score of 261.

Just like Hussey who was out for 195, Thomas was finally dismissed trying to hit a six.

"I won't be going for a six again," Thomas said.

"I'll hit the ball along the ground.

"It's exciting to score a hundred the same day as Hussey, his saved his career."

Like Hussey, or Mr Cricket as he is known, Thomas puts a high price on his wicket.

"Mike Hussey and Shane Watson are my favourite cricketers," the young century-maker said.

Only a year ago Thomas was more interested in doing a bit of farming with his father Kevin on the family dairy farm at Maryvale than heading to Warwick for a morning of cricket. …
