Judge Tells Man -You Deserve Jail

A JUDGE told a man who beat his former partner "black and blue" in a jealous rage that he wanted to jail him for 18 months but instead spared him custody after receiving pleas from the victim.

Shaeen Ali, 25, of Teesdale Terrace, Thornaby, broke into Louise Dobbs's home and "gave her a thorough beating" which left her needing hospital treatment.

Judge Michael Taylor told Ali at Teesside Crown Court the incident had "hallmarks of a classic domestic violence situation," and that he wanted to jail him for 18 months. However,Miss Dobbs sent a letter to the judge pleading with him not to jail her ex-partner and spoke of wanting a reconciliation.

Judge Taylor said: "I hope she appreciates the danger she puts herself in for the future. She may have to live with the consequences of what I do today."

Ali previously pleaded guilty to a charge of actual bodily harm and one of criminal damage.

The court heard that Miss Dobbs was out in Middlesbrough on the night of April 4 this year. …
