May 8, 2009: Corus announces a 90-day consultation process with a view to mothballing the Teesside Cast Products blast furnace after confirming members of the consortium that signed the 10-year deal with TCP in 2004 had walked out on the agreement.

June 24: It's announced that thousands of people will take to the streets of Redcar on July 18 in support of Teesside steel industry. October 2, 2009: TCP announces it has secured orders until the end of the year. December 4, 2009: Corus chief executive Kirby Adams arrives on Teesside to deliver the news that the site is to be mothballed with the loss of 1,700 jobs. December 9, 2009: The Government announces a pounds 60m support package for Teesside. It was originally put together to aid Teesside's process industry. December 2009: An emergency inquiry into the Corus crisis gets under way.
