A YOUNG cancer battler has been honoured for his bravery in fighting the rare disease.

Five-year-old Coby Seddon was given a Brave Heart Award in recognition of his battle with rhabdomyosarcoma - a cancerous tumour which developed in the muscle on his temple.

And in a twist of fate, the Ingleby Barwick youngster was presented with the award exactly a year to the day he had his final bout of chemotherapy.

His mum Sandra Evans said today: "We told him it was because he had been so brave and so good when he was having his magic medicine. It's a fantastic milestone for us."

Coby was taken by limousine from the family's home at Beckfields to Newcastle United's St James' Park stadium for the ceremony where he was presented with the crystal book.

The Ingleby Mill Primary School pupil was diagnosed with the cancerous tumour in May last year.

Mum Sandra first noticed the lump on the side of Coby's head at the end of March. …
