New Chums to Be Bigger and Better Next Season; Senior Competition Heading in the Right Direction

AFL Darling Downs president Trevor Green is confident the senior competition is moving from strength to strength following confirmation that Highfields, Dalby and Lockyer Valley will return next season.

Former senior teams Lockyer Valley and Dalby successfully re-joined this year's league while Highfields emerged as a senior entity after years of involvement in junior competitions.

Green said the draw for next season had just been completed with each of the three teams indicating a return in 2011. "Dalby and Highfields are certainties while the Lockyer Valley president (Tony Bowers) is extremely confident they'll be back," Green said.

With the absence of a junior structure, Lockyer Valley struggled to make an impact in this year's senior competition, losing all their matches, but Green is confident the future is bright at the club. "It's going to take them a couple years longer to develop, but the committee is working hard at it and with the population numbers in that area, it's hard to see them not improving," he said. …
