Youngsters Shine at Nationals; Youth Championships Provide Next Mission

FOUR regional athletes gained valuable experience for next year's Australian Youth Championships with fine efforts at last weekend's Australian All School Championships in Melbourne.

Ipswich District Athletic Club duo Larissa Chambers and Kirsten Tucker set personal bests, along with QE2 club competitor Kirsty Johnson.

Larissa's 12.37 second PB in the under-16 100m final gave her coach Vic Pascoe an extra special moment to enjoy.

"She's the baby basically of the field," Pascoe said, thrilled about her final 100m effort that lowered her previous best time of 12.42 at the state championships.

"I was so excited. She did very, very well.

"She's peaking each time at all the championships. It was excellent."

After her fine 100m run, speedster Larissa came sixth in the 200m final (25.86s).

She capped a good meet with silver in the under-16 4x100m relay. She set up the Queensland team's national medal.

Kirsten achieved her personal best of 10. …
