Changing Time for Bremer State High; Leaving Bricks and Mortar but Taking ,Cyheart and Soul'

BREMER State High School has rarely been as quiet and empty as it was yesterday.

More than 1400 students had left for the holidays and staff members were busy packing all the equipment for the big move to a newly-built school costing $76 million.

Classrooms that have accommodated several generations of students in the past 50 years were being abandoned.

Admin officer Pat Mander has had a close connection with the school for much of that time.

"I came here as a student, my husband was a student and both of my children came here," she said.

Before Mrs Mander began paid work at Bremer in 1989, she did voluntary jobs and spent a couple of years as P&C secretary.

"It's a really good place," she said.

"There's been some fantastic people here to work with.

"It's been good for me.

"This move is the largest of the changes I've seen."

Mrs Mander is impressed with the new school under construction on Warwick Road, next to the University of Queensland's Ipswich campus. …
