STEELE Ryan hopes a win by Deer Valley against the boys in today's Group Three George Moore Stakes at Eagle Farm will decide the mare's assignment at next month's Magic Millions at the Gold Coast.

Deer Valley was also nominated to run against her own sex in today's Listed Just Now Quality (1300m) but Ryan decided to take on the harder option with the four-year-old.

After failing in the Group One Winter Stakes in June, the daughter of Lonhro finished a handy sixth to Zero Rock over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm in her comeback last month.

"I know the George Moore is a lot harder race for her but 1200 metres is as far as she wants at this stage of her preparation," Ryan said yesterday.

"I was a bit worried if I ran her in the fillies and mares' race the 1300 metres would be more like 1400 metres if we get rain."

Ryan believes the stronger George Moore Stakes over 1200 metres will be a good guide to Magic Millions day on January 15.

"At this stage her next run will be in either the (Listed) Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast or there's a Quality race worth $100,000 for fillies and mares at Toowoomba later this month," he said. …
