Carlisle Boss Excited by Zoko's Potential

CARLISLE boss Greg Abbott is predicting the best is yet to come from Francois Zoko after the striker signed a new 18-month contract, writes MARK DOUGLAS.

The former Ivory Coast Under-23 striker (pictured right) has made a big impact at Brunton Park since being snapped up on trial in the summer and Abbott was desperate to tie him to a long-term deal to avoid suitors from higher up the leagues trying to snatch him in January.

With pace, power and an eye for goal - five in 23 appearances is a reasonable return - Zoko has made a good start to his career in England and his name was circulating around clubs in the Championship.

But Carlisle have acted rapidly to ensure he stays and his new deal means that he will be with the club until the end of next season.

"Francois has already shown us what he can do and he has become a bit of a favourite with the fans because of the way he approaches the game," Abbott said.

"When he is on form he is really difficult to deal with and he can add something just a little bit different. …
