THE trickle of water over Fred Haigh Dam will flow on to a wave of prosperity, according to Bundaberg Regional Councillor Wayne Honor.

Lake Monduran reached 100% capacity and started spilling over the dam yesterday morning, for the first time since 1992.

"It's wonderful for the region Co we have a full dam at Monduran and a full dam at Paradise," Cr Honor said.

"It ensures economic security for (fruit and vegetable) farmers, cane growers, and industry across all of Bundaberg and Gin Gin."

He said the extra water would be worth a fortune to the local economy, boosting not just the agriculture sector but also manufacturing and other industry.

"It's worth billions in jobs and family incomes Co it underpins a very bright future for the next 10 years, because Bundaberg lives and breathes for agriculture," Cr Honor said.

He said many growers had struggled for more than 30 years because of instability with water allocations, but he hoped this year's wet season heralded the way for another 12 months of good rainfall. …
