FREMANTLE is famous for yachting, AFL football and country music singer Rose Carleo. Rose grew up in Fremantle listening to her mothers' vast collection of country music which included Emmylou Harris, George Jones, Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn.

Rose recalls "I remember hearing the George Jones song I Stopped Loving Her Today and I was totally moved by the song and it remains my all-time favourite country song".

"Mum played many country music cassettes and was a member of the local country music club and started promoting the clubs."

When Rose was 13 she was singing Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms, a 1971 top 10 hit for Buck Owens at the Dianella Hotel, Perth.

Rose had a diverse taste for music and was a big fan of Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.

By 2010 Rose was on stage with her friend Adam Brand at Tamworth and previously supported Vanessa Amorosi and performed backing vocals on the Jimmy Barnes album Soul Deep.

Rose moved to Brisbane and teamed up gifted singer/guitarist Brendan Radford, now Smokin Crawdads member, to record her debut album Everything l Need.

The first single Til I Find Me Again reached the Top 40 on the Country Music Channel.

Rose teamed up with Drew McAlister to record the duet Sometimes You Just Know which saw Rose and Drew receive a Golden Guitar Vocal Collaboration finalist nomination and win the TIARA Award for Vocal Collaboration of the Year in 2008.

This week Rose Carleo releases her latest album Life Gets in the Way, recorded in Hervey Bay and Nashville.

Drew McAlister co-wrote six of the albums tracks along with Rose, Mike Carr, Tamara Stewart, Anthony Snape, Michael Fix, Matt Scullion and others.

From the opening track That Season Again Rose dominates with a real raw edge and powerful vocals.
