JORDAN HENDERSON never lost faith that Sunderland starlet David Meyler would bounce back from serious injury stronger than ever.

Meyler made his first start in seven months at Fulham last week, after working tirelessly to recover from cruciate knee ligament damage.

And Henderson has been impressed by the dedication shown by the 21-year-old, who ruptured both the anterior and posterior ligaments in his knee against Manchester United in May.

"Meyler has worked really hard over the last seven or eight months," Henderson said.

"He's been doing really well, deserved to play at Fulham and I thought he did a good job. He worked extra hard over the summer with the physios and he's done well to come back so quickly.

"But he's got the right mentality and I knew he would come back even stronger. Fair play to him.

"It was a bad injury and I spoke to him a lot and he always seemed positive. There was never a minute when I doubted he would come back ahead of schedule. …
