STATE MP Steve Dickson Has Condemned Plans to Allow 16- to 18-Storey Buildings in the Maroochydore CBD, Saying It Will Set a Precedent

Article excerpt

STICK to your guns, Steve.

What a load of rot the developer industry sprouts.

"Submissions made by the development industry that showed 12-storey buildings were not economically viable" can be accurately translated as "We developers can't make as big a profit out of 12-storey buildings as we can from 18-storey ones..."

I work in a brand new office building in Brisbane that is six storeys high and houses over 500 staff.

No problems there.

Why is it an issue here?

High time for high rise

SO what if there are a couple more high rises in the CBD.

Having bigger high rise in the middle of the CBD will actually help protect the coast's peri-urban fringe from urban development.

This will preserve the rural/coastal character of the Sunshine Coast as well as the identity of its towns and villages.

It is this character that distinguishes the Sunshine Coast from the Gold Coast.
