Overdoing It Can Ruin Christmas

HEALTH experts are reminding people that excessive alcohol and food consumption can equal a very unmerry Christmas this festive season.

Hangovers and bloating are unpleasant and can ruin your Christmas but at the worst end of the spectrum, food and alcohol poisoning can not only make you very sick but also potentially kill you.

Dr Meng Khaw, of NHS North of Tyne, said: "Everyone is entitled to a break around Christmas and having lots of nice things to eat and drink is all part of the festivities, but eating and drinking to excess is a recipe for disaster.

"If you are sick or unwell through over-eating or drinking then the best course of action is to rest and take plenty of fluids.

"If you are really ill and think you need medical help then contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or go online at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk for expert advice."

Dr Khaw is also encouraging people to keep their medicine cabinets well stocked over Christmas. …
