BLYTH Spartans fans have been given an early Christmas present with the news captain and top scorer Paul Brayson will be fit for the festive fixtures.

The former Magpie has been sidelined with an ankle injury, but came through Thursday's training session with no reaction.

Blyth made light work of the 33-year-old's absence in midweek when they knocked Fleetwood Town out of the FA Trophy. The return of Spartans' goalscoring ace, however, will give manager Mick Tait a full squad to select from when his side return to action.

Blyth host Workington on Boxing Day, the Cumbrians ending a winless run of 10 games, including eight defeats, with a 2-0 win at Stafford Rangers on December 11.

Blyth also play the Reds on New Year's Day in Cumbria, the big test coming on December 28 at table-topping Alfreton Town. Brayson said: "The big freeze has worked in my favour as I have hardly missed a game and had time to rest the ankle injury. …
