BOXING: Teenager Bryce Hegarty has stamped his mark on the national boxing scene by capturing an Australian title.

The 16-year-old fighter, who is the Global Golden Gloves champ, beat Global Queensland titleholder Jack Mcphee to snare the vacant national 67kg belt.

Noosa Box Office Fight Nite Boxing Team trainer Shane Hegarty said after the bout, which had four two-minute rounds: C[pounds sterling]Tough Mcphee came to fight but after two stoppages and eight counts, Bryce was too fit, fast and sharp and went on to win.

Shane, who is also Bryce's father, said the three-time state title holder was destined to defend his belt after an obligatory six-week holding period.
