New Car Tough Test for National Champ

CAN you imagine Mark Webber jumping in his new car for the opening round of Formula One next season having not tested it?

The National Super Sedan Series might not exactly be Formula One but that is the challenge facing defending champion, Ipswich's Matt Pascoe.

Pascoe has a new car ready to rumble but has not had the opportunity to try it out due to the wet weather.

So he goes into tonight's opening round of the new national series at the Brisbane International Speedway, Archerfield, underdone but confident he can repeat last year's effort.

"We were supposed to have practice on Tuesday," Pascoe said. "We'd had two days of sunshine but still couldn't practise."

Prior to that, Pascoe had hoped to give the new car a workout at Kingaroy on December 18 but that was also washed out.

The only time he's spent behind the wheel was in the paddock behind his workshop.

"Just to make sure the brakes are working," Pascoe said.

But he isn't concerned. …
