Thumbs Up for Revamp; HARBOUR FACELIFT: Stage One of $8 Million Redevelopment Opens to Public

THE first section of the multi-million dollar Jack Evans Boat Harbour upgrade has been welcomed with open arms by locals and holiday-makers.

Stage One of the southern portion of the $8 million redevelopment opened to the public on Thursday.

Despite overcast conditions, about 30 people made the most of timber decking, manicured park-land and beach access when the Tweed Daily News visited on Friday.

Tweed Heads resident John Wilson visited with his wife to have a look at the progress.

"It is really starting to get there a fantastic a and is going to be very family-friendly when it is finished," he said.

Tweed Shire Council project manager Bob Hanby said council had been extremely keen to make the southern precinct available for families during the Christmas period.

"The opening means it will be available for the Twin Towns Club's annual fireworks on New Year's Eve," he said. …
